3 Background Information Example #1 Bullying in North America has been on the rise. In 2008, 40 000 adolescents reported being physically or verbally abused by their peers. With changes in technology, programs such as facebook, msn, and my space, have aided in the growth of “cyberbullying”. A form of bullying that is much more difficult to detect. In 2009, 35 students in North York Public School reported cases of on- line bullying. Some reported private emails going public, others of online intimidation, threats and taunting.

4 Background Information Example #2 In 2001, over 10, 000 teens, aged 14-19, across Canada reported that they had been victims of cyber bullying. Technological advancements have provided teens with another avenue to bully; online chat, text messaging, and taunting emails. This new age bullying plays a detrimental role in one’s personal, mental attitude and personal growth into adulthood.
