3. Background Information Example #1 Bullying in North America has been on the rise. In 2008, 40 000 adolescents reported being physically or verbally abused by their peers. With changes in technology, programs such as facebook, msn, and my space, have aided in the growth of “cyberbullying”. A form of bullying that is much more difficult to detect. In 2009, 35 students in North York Public School reported cases of on- line bullying. Some reported private emails going public, others of online intimidation, threats and taunting.

Technological advancements have provided teens with another avenue to bully; online chat, text messaging, and taunting emails.
