7 Data on behavior and academic achievement Illinois currently has 1100 schools implementing SWPBS. Office Discipline Referrals (ODR’s) dropped on average 20% in the first year of implementation. Suspensions decreased on average by 70% in schools that were fully implementing. State standardized reading test scores increased from 59.3% students (at or above) passing to 86.6%

10 Panther RoaRRS Tickets 1. Staff members carry tickets and attend to socially appropriate behaviors (Be Respectful, Be Ready, Be Responsible, Be Safe.) in the halls/ stairs, cafeteria, classrooms and arrival/ dismissal. 2. Student is given a ticket and social feedback by staff member. 3. Teacher signs the ticket and the Student writes his/ her name on the ticket and places it in any designated Panther Ticket Box. 4. Teachers will log any panther tickets that are in their box onto the I Drive Database daily or by Thursday PM. Thursday PM, please place all those tickets in designated folder. Students will pick up designated folder on Friday Flex Time. The cycle of each box will run from Friday AM through Thursday PM. After that a new cycle will start. 5. On Friday afternoon, 3 names from each grade will be drawn. The container will be emptied after drawing these names to begin a new cycle. 6. These 9 children will receive a prize. Students will choose one item from the prize box. 8. ALL students will be entered into a monthly prize drawing

11 Classroom behavior Use yellow and red cards Have students fill out the student discipline form. They have 5 min. or will be sent to the office. If student complies, discuss their wrongdoing. Keep discipline form Make phone calls home

12 Planners All numbered Used everyday All students must write in daily assignments Guidance to call 3 numbers everyday to check on planner use.

13 First Day 7:20All Creative Arts teachers will be outside to welcome and monitor students All homeroom teachers will be in the cafeteria to greet students and hand out schedules All other teachers will be posted in the hallways to greet students and assist as needed Students will be called into the cafeteria by grade level to get schedules and report to homeroom

17 Second Day The goal for today is to introduce students to the specific behavioral and academic expectations in each class. It will be necessary to address the following topics multiple times throughout the year. Remember that it is essential not only to tell students what is expected but to show what is expected through modeling

20 Here are some guidelines for effective partner learning: Assign partners. Pair lower performing students with middle performing students. Give partners a number (#1 or #2). Sit partners next to each other. Utilize triads when appropriate. Teach students how to work together. LOOK, LEAN, LISTEN, and WHISPER. Explain that partners are not related to ‘friendship’ but better matched to ‘work relationships.’ Change the partnerships occasionally (every three to six weeks). When you wish to use cooperative teams, join two partnerships.

21 Uses of partners. Have students: 1. Say answer to partner. Provide a sentence starter. 2. Retell content of lesson using a graphic organizer. 3. Review information with their partner. (Teach-Pause OR Study, Tell, Help, Check) 4. Brainstorm (Think, Pair, Share). 5. Explain process, strategy, or algorithm using examples to their partner. 6. Complete an experiment or project with their partner. 7. Read to or with partner.
