3 3 NetOwl for EPA September 17, 2008: September 17, 2008: –The explosion of unstructured data has created an information challenge for many organizations. Until now, organizations have not been able to efficiently locate and “mine” unstructured text found in email, portals, or other sources. These massive volumes of unstructured data contain a large percentage of critical information that is only useful if it can be identified. –SRA developed NetOwl®, a suite of rich text mining tools, to discover and extract the knowledge found in free-form text documents and turn it into actionable information. NetOwl has been refined over more than a decade of research and development. Our team of researchers and engineers continue to expand NetOwl’s capabilities to keep pace with evolving information needs.

5 5 Purpose What do Enterprise Architecture and Data Architecture both have in common? What do Enterprise Architecture and Data Architecture both have in common? –They both need systems and system engineers. –EA needs a DA. Recall: Mike Axelrod, Excellus Blue Cross Blue Shield: Why Enterprise Architecture Needs Social Software. Recall: Mike Axelrod, Excellus Blue Cross Blue Shield: Why Enterprise Architecture Needs Social Software. –John Zachman - You can't change what you can't see. But how do a few architects reveal the 10,000 things? We have EA and DA tools, but we put the data in spreadsheets so we would like to be able to organize and analyze in that form as well. 16 16 Brian Donnelly I have started, owned and operated my own companies since University days. After creating Constellar Corporation and, with a great team, pioneering much of EAI and ETL etc, we have moved on to be pioneers in the Semantic Web. My goal is to revolutionise the capability of the ordinary person - at their desktop - in being able to formulate sophisticated questions (and of course get answers!), in a way that was previously only possible with a team of researchers. 17 17 Brian Donnelly Although much of this impetus has come from my work in Drug R&D, where the 'questions' are very tough indeed, I see this capability as being subsumed into the desktop of everyone in due course.
