1.5 Subtracting Integers Standards: NS 1.2 and AF 1.3 Objectives: Subtract integers.
2
Subtracting Integers Example 6 - 5 = 1 is the same as 6 + (-5) = 1 So, we want to change every subtraction problem to ADDITION, then we will use what we already have learned!!!! You can use the Two Stick Rule, Keep Change Change, or Add the Opposite. Example: -9 - 4 becomes -9 + -4 which equals -13! -9 - 4 becomes -9 + -4 which equals -13!
3
Subtracting Integers: Change to ADDITION! Find the difference. 1)5 – 7 2)-6 – 8 3)-9 – (-9) 4)5 – (-1) 5) 12 – 26 6) -19 – 5 7) -35 – ( -20) 8) 42 – ( -7)
4
Subtracting Integers: Change to ADDITION! Find the difference. Use the two stick rule, keep change change, or add the opposite every time you see a subtraction sign. 1)-3 – 5 – 2 2)-8 – 7 – (-8) 3)4 – 7 – 10
5
Practice 1) -6 – (-2)

Practice 2) -2 – 11
7
Practice 3) 7 – 9 – (-12)
