3 KEY WORDS CENSUS: A questionnaire done every 10 years to find the population of a country. EMIGRATE: When people leave a country. LIFE EXPECTANCY: The average number of years a person is expected to live. MIGRATION: The movement of people. NATURAL INCREASE: The BR minus the DR. POPULATION PYRAMID: A graph to show the population structure.

4 PUSH FACTORS: Factors which force a person away from an area. PULL FACTORS: Things which attract people to an area. REFUGEES: People who are forced to migrate. ZERO POPULATION GROWTH: When BR and DR are equal. DISTRIBUTION: How people are spread out. DENSITY: The number of people in an area. BIRTH RATE: The number of births per 1,000 people per year. DEATH RATE: The number of deaths per 1,000 people per year.

5 DEMOGRAPHIC TRANSITION MODEL: A graph used to show population changes. INFANT MORTALITY: The number of children out of every 1,000 born alive who die before the age of one. POPULATION STRUCTURE: The number of males and females within different age groups in a population.

8 Where are MEDC’s and LEDC’s found? MEDC’s are usually found in the rich north and LEDC’s are usually found in the poor south. You can see the line on your map which divides the rich north from the poor south. It is an imaginary line.

9 Where are all the people? 1. On the key, colour the top box in brown, the middle box in orange and the bottom box in yellow. 2. Colour Asia and Europe in brown 3. Colour North America, Africa, USSR and Australia in yellow. 4. Colour the rest of the countries in orange. 5. Look at the table where it says Time for Population to Double. Put an arrow to show how the population will grow.
