Be the change you want to see in your world... Prevent Bullying You have a right to be safe and happy at school. You have the responsibility to show care and concern for others in your school. You can do something about bullying. Tell your teacher, principal, friend or parent or guardian if you are unhappy about something at school. Contact an organization like Childline for advice.

Bullying is being mean to someone else over and over again. It includes:  name calling and teasing.  threats – talking about hurting someone.  extortion – taking things away from someone.  damaging property and belongings.  spreading horrible rumours or stories.  deliberately leaving someone out of games or activities.

Kids who are bullied Kids who are bullied often feel:  different.  powerless.  unpopular.  alone. Kids who are bullied think that the bully is more powerful than they are. Bullying can make them:  sad, lonely or nervous.  feel sick.  have problems at school.  bully other kids.

Kids who bully others Kids bully others for many reasons, they may:  want to copy their friends.  think bullying will make them fit in.  think they are better than the person they are bullying. Bullying is never okay. It is one person using power to hurt another person. Power does not only mean bigger or stronger, it can mean more popular or smarter. We live in a country where people struggled for justice and fairness. We need to look after this right. We need to treat each other with justice and fairness too.

5 Be the change you want to see in your world. Be the change you want to see in your world... LOOK OUT FOR EACH OTHER. KEEP EACH OTHER SAFE. Kids who see bullying When we see bullying, we often don’t know what to do. Our choices often seem to be only to join in ourselves, or to remain silent, so that we don’t become targets of bullying ourselves. The BEST THING to do, is to call an adult who can help. Keeping quiet – not doing anything – is just as hurtful as bullying. It allows space for it to continue. Be the change… Speak up.
