Picasso used a variety of styles during his career but was perhaps best known for his surrealist paintings. Picasso used simple geometrical shapes and sharp, contrasting colors to created exaggerated representations of people and other objects.

3. Self Portrait 1907 Self Portrait from 1907 by Pablo Picasso was painted around the same time as his famous Les Demoiselles d'Avignon painting. The portrait is mask-like and possibly influenced by African art, which the artist had a fascination with.

7. The Dove of Peace Picasso began drawing his dove symbols in 1950 in response to the United States' use of atomic bombs in World War II. What might the dove symbolize? The dove and the glowing sun represent the simplicity and beauty of the natural world, as opposed to the complications of war.

8. The Dove of Peace In the dove’s beak is an olive branch, which is another symbol. What do you think it represents? How is the use of this image poetic? An olive branch represents two different groups of people reaching out to each other. The image symbolizes peace.
