2 Artist Statement If I had to categorize my style of art, the two words Realism and Cartoon would be the best to describe it. This style was affected by my hobby, cartooning. I always read cartoons on websites and in books, and I try to create some characters during my spare time. When I try to get a new idea for a sketch, I am also influenced by music. My favorite artwork is black and white; mainly sketching. Black and white sketching is the most casual and comfortable way to work. Art is fun, and that is the reason I really like to do it. However, I really want to express myself. I want my art to be a mirror for everyone: the honest art, showing painters’ real feelings at that moment. I feel that this makes better work. Different personalities make people have a different view of art. My portfolio would make them think and interpret the art from their own experiences, like poetry. Art class at Trinity has inspired me to make more creative work. When I went to school in Korea, art class was just a study hall. The teacher forced us to study other subjects except for the students that were going to major in Art. Therefore, when I came to Trinity, my classmates and my teacher’s passion for art was very impressive. Whenever I have no ideas for a direction to take with a project, Mrs. Hayes helps me think in a broader way. Having conversations with my fellow students gives me impressive advise that actually helps develop my artwork. Since I share my idea of art with my peers and the teacher in class, I feel my art is a closer representation of what I want it to be.
