2. Session Objectives Understand the purpose of routine network management tasks, Know the reasons for keeping a log of work completed on a network, Carry out and document a range of different routine network management tasks.

Routine Network Management Tasks Network administrators carry out a range of different tasks on a daily basis to keep the network operational – These daily tasks are known as “Routine Network Management Tasks” They fall into a number of categories including: User Accounting Development of login scripts Maintaining Security Storage Maintenance Backups For P6 you need to carry out and evidence a number of different routine network management tasks.

4. Specific Examples of Routine Network Management Tasks Some network management activities which you can carry out include: Backup and restoring files, User account creation and deletion, Design and develop login scripts, Virus scanning, File cleanup, Configuring user accounts, Setting drive mappings, Configuring virus scan options

5. Need For Documentation Any changes made to a network should be documented so that if a fault occurs the changes can be rolled back, When carrying out practical tasks for M3 you need to log all the tasks which you complete, Producing a table will allow you to log the changes to the network you make and provide suitable evidence for M3 Your table should include columns for: Activity Date / Time, Accurate technical details of the tools and devices you used Any appropriate comments on the tasks. 7. For P6, you should undertake as many as possible of the routine maintenance operations outlined in the unit content. Tasks must be from actual hands on experience and not just a written account of what you could do!!! For M3 you need to include formal logs of the tasks which you carry out. A word processed or spread sheet table which is either typed up or filled in by hand is appropriate.
