GCSE Art and Design Course Outline Two units of Study

Unit 1: Portfolio of Work (work done in class during Yr 10 and the first term of Yr11) 80 marks – 60% of final exam result. Candidate portfolio selected from work undertaken during course of study and must include more than one project

Unit 2: Externally Set Task Question papers issued from 1 January (in Year11). 80 marks – 40% of final exam result. Unlimited preparation time. 10 hours of sustained focused study. Candidates respond to their chosen starting point.

The course includes: Knowledge and understanding of the work of others, Work on a range of Art, Craft and Design processes including 2D, 3D and new media. Evaluating the work of others, How knowledge and understanding of others’ work informs your own good practice. How images relate to their own time.

And........ You will: Record ideas, and experiences as part of your research. Explore resources, Generate lines of enquiry, Apply your knowledge and skills to your own imagery, Organise, select, and communicate ideas, solutions and responses, Work as an individual and sometimes with others.

Are you............. A Creative Thinker, A problem solver, An Independent Enquirer, Self Motivated, A Reflective Learner, and A Team Worker? Then Art and Design might just be the GCSE for you!
