Skills And Techniques Lesson 2
2
Homework feedback Break a forward roll down into as many subroutines as possible...
3
Stand feet together and hands above head. Bend knees. Place hands flat on the ground. Tuck head in. Push off from feet. Roll on your back keeping feet together and a tucked position. Reach forward to stand upright. Raise hands above head to finish.
4
By the end of the block… We will perform an apparatus routine, containing our strongest skills, with control and fluency. Before we put together our routine what will we have to do?
5
Cycle of Analysis Investigate: Gather Data Analyse: Work out Strengths and weaknesses Develop: Practice Evaluate: Have you improved? Cycle of Analysis
6
Today we will learn... How to describe how we gathered general data on our performance. How to breakdown a skill. How to describe a skill. What a subroutine is.
7
How did we gather general data on our performance? We gathered general data by completing a skills checklist. Our partner watched us perform various flight, balancing, rotational and inversion skills. We performed each skill 5 times. After our 5 th attempt our partner ticked whether we showed: limited control and fluency, sometimes showed control and fluency, showed good control and fluency, consistently showed a high degree of control and fluency.
8
Why was the data gathering method appropriate? The checklist identified our strengths and weaknesses. Completing an observation schedule gives us a permanent record we can look back upon after practising. Performing each skill 5 times means we got an accurate picture of our ability.
9
Why do we want to break a skill down? One way of analysing a skill is to break it down into smaller parts. By doing this it allows you to see which parts of the skill are being performed correctly and which parts need more practice.
10
How do we break down a skill? All skills can be broken down into 3 main areas PREPARATION ACTION RECOVERY A good way to remember these areas is the acronym PAR.
11
Describe a forward roll using Preparation, Action, Recovery. PREPARATION – Feet together, hands above head Bend knees Tuck head in ACTION – Take weight on hands Curve back Keep legs together RECOVERY – Open body out Finish standing still
12
Now watch the video clips and use PAR to describe the skills in detail. Tennis serve http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/gcsebitesize/pe/video/tennis/servingrev1.shtml Netball shot http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/gcsebitesize/pe/video/netball/shootingrev1.shtml Football shooting http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/gcsebitesize/pe/video/football/shootingrev1.shtml
13
What are subroutines? Subroutines are the small parts (movements) that make up a skill.
14
Homework Homework is due for Thursday 03/09/2009 What 3 areas have you used to break down skills? Use these areas to breakdown a gymnastic skill of your choice. What are subroutines? Int 1- Describe how you collected general data on your performance. (3) Int 2- Describe one method you used to collect data about your whole performance. (4)
