6 How did Wrights Brother’s invention impact the turn of the century? Before the airplane many places appeared to be far and were hard to get to. With the airplane, going to any location is easier and faster.

8 What was George Washington Carver known for? His fame was based on his research into and promotion of crops as alternatives to cotton, such as peanuts and sweet potatoes. He wanted poor farmers to grow alternative crops both as a source of their own food and as a source of other products to improve their quality of life. vv

9 When did Carver start making his discoveries? 1896 – He began teaching at the Tuskegee Institute in Alabama. 1921 – He talked to the US Congress about his discoveries in science.

20 Where did Edison start making his discoveries? Edison's major innovation was the first industrial research lab, which was built in Menlo Park, New Jersey. His first power station was in Manhattan Island, New York.
