8 Put it ALL together…

9 Once upon a time there was a princess named Sophie who lived in a stone castle by the sea. Her brother, Phillip, was a brave ship captain who brought wonderful things from far away lands. She and her pet falcon liked to watch him sail in and out of the harbor from her tower window. One morning, Sophie noticed dark clouds coming over the mountains. A wicked storm was coming! She watched in horror as her brother’s ship sailed out into the dangerous sea. She had to warn him- but how? Sophie ran down the tower steps and told the guards what she saw. The guards did not believe her and said that princesses did not watch ships from tower windows. They read poetry and sang pretty songs by the fire. Sophie was upset- how would she ever save her brother? Suddenly, she had an idea. Racing back up the steps to her tower room, Sophie wrote a warning message to Phillip. She took a red ribbon from her hair and tied the message to the falcon’s leg. Giving the bird directions to fly quickly to Philip, she let it go into the sky. The bird flew straight to the prince’s ship and landed on his shoulder. Philip recognized his sister’s ribbon, and quickly untied to message. He ordered his ship to return to the harbor immediately, and just made it to shore when the storm hit. Sophie had saved her brother with her quick thinking!
