RESEARCHING ABOUT SCIENTISTS FOR SCIENCE FAIR
2
WHY DO WE RESEARCH ABOUT SCIENTISTS? Scientists base their research upon the studies and research of the scientists that went before them. Dmitri Mendeleev could not have made his periodic table if John Dalton had not already have defined what an element is and have given names to elements. Jonas Salk needed the work of Louis Pasteur on bacteria and vaccines in order to develop a vaccine against polio.

How do we do research about scientists? 1.Identify key words in your research an ask yourself: a. Did a scientist play a role in discovering, inventing, or learning about this topic so that I can do my research? b. Which scientists did groundwork so that I can do my work? c. What do I know about the topic that I can share with others.

What Kinds of Information Should I Look For? Isaac Newton (1642-1727) Bristish scientist and mathematician Made observations of nature and stated the law of gravity Developed 3 laws of motion 1.If the net force acting on an object is zero, the object remains at rest, or if the object is already moving, it continues to move in a straight line with constant speed. 2.An object acted upon by a force will accelerate in the direction of the force. 3.For every action there is an equal but opposite reaction. http://scienceworld.wolfram. com/biography/Newton.html

HOW DO I PUT THE INFORMATION ON MY NOTE SHEET? 1.Use the same procedure as for the web to show your citation – Use Citation Builder from World Book or Easy-Bib 2.Take notes in bullet style 3.Find a picture by using a browser and clicking on images. Type in the name of the person and once you have an image you like, right click and copy. Be careful not to use images that are protected.
