Grace We lost the gift of grace by original sin. God, the Son, made man, came so that by his life, death, and Resurrection, he could restore grace for mankind. Jesus entrusted this grace to the Church he founded and distributes this grace through the seven sacraments.

Turn to page 87 in your textbook. What is a sacrament? It is an outward sign instituted by Jesus Christ to give grace. What are signs you see in everyday life? Look for signs in the classroom. Why are there signs? To what extent do we rely on signs?

A sacramental sign points to the reality of the grace conferred in the sacrament. Sacraments are sacred ceremonies through which Jesus gives us his grace. They are a way for us to deepen our relationship with Christ and to participate in the mysteries of God.

We know that Jesus instituted the sacraments. Find examples of the sacraments in the Bible.
