The Sacraments Christ’s introduction of the Lords Table Luke 22: 14-20 Greek: Mūsterion is translated thru Latin Sacramentum into the English word Sacrament which means “mystery”. Exodus 12: 24-27 Means of Grace: a creaturely media (natural things like speech, bread, and wine) through which the Spirit delivers Christ and all of His benefits Thomas Watson: “A sacrament is a visible sermon and herein the sacrament excels the Word preached. The Word is a trumpet to proclaim Christ, the Sacrament is a glass (mirror) to represent Him.”

Who should participate in the Lords Table PBC Open Table: Open to all that follow Christ Closed Table: Must be a member of Denomination or Local Church. Must be a believer Luke 22: 14 Believers must not participate in and unworthy manner: 1 Cor. 11: 27 Must not be participating in un-repentant sin. Must have a humble heart and deep awareness of your own sinfulness. Must not have un-reconciled hostility toward fellow Christian

The Elements and Christ’s Presence 1. Christ is not present, the Lords Table is a Memorial only. 2. Christ is Physically present: Transubstantiation & Consubstantiation 3. Christ is really present Spiritually Although Christ is present every time we Worship, His presence in the Lords Table is different in Purpose!

The Passover and The Lords Table The institution of the Lords Table on the Passover meal: Mark 14: 12 and Luke 11: 7-8 Both instituted as a memorial and sign for future generations of Gods provision of deliverance. Exodus 12: 24-27 and Luke 22: 19 Both exhibit intimacy between the people and the sacrifice. Exodus 12: 7 and Luke 22 14

The Passover and The Lords Table continued…. Both focus on an atoning death Exodus 12: 3; 5a and 7 John 1: 36; 1 Cor. 5: 7; 1 Peter 1: 19 Both focus on a call to Holiness through the removal of sin. Duet. 16: 3-4a and 1 Cor. 5: 6-8 Both are observed only by Gods covenant community. Exodus 12: 43-48 Hebrews 10: 1-17

Application Have you put your trust in the only one that can provide for the forgiveness of sin, the Lord Jesus Christ? Are you aware of your own sinfulness before a Holy God and humbled yourself before Him? Are you living a repentant life? Do you have any un-reconciled issues with a brother or sister in Christ?
