Chapter 9.2 Europe after the Fall of Rome Read pages 234-239 Main Idea: Despite efforts of Christians to maintain order, Europe was a dangerous place after the fall of Rome: – Christianity spread to northern Europe through the work of missionaries and monks. – The Franks, led by Charlemagne, created a huge Christian empire and brought together scholars from around Europe. – Invaders threatened much of Europe in the 700s and 800s.
