4 Cultural Differences  This course is designed to help students develop working knowledge of basic traits of other cultures  Students explore: cultural differences other mindsets what to expect abroad

5 Globalization & Technology  students learn ways to avoid language barriers  national characteristics of a variety of countries  categories of operating modes into which nations fall In today's business climate of globalization and rapidly changing technology, the world is connect as never before!

6 Exploring Cultural Roots  Students get a broad tour of the world's cultures, protocols, and peculiarities.  Learning about cultural roots helps to understand the development of cultural norms and mindsets in some of the world's cultures.

8 Language The Zulus have 39 words for green. They live in a "green" world. nature is reflected strongly in their language. Eskimos have 42 words for snow. They live in a "white" world. Languages reflect the needs of the societies which they serve. Students explore how they evolve, grow, and change. Did you k now? … Students will explore how language evolves grows, and change.

9 Cultural Roots Students develop a working knowledge of the basic traits of other cultures.

10 Cultural Mindsets Students learn to recognize the importance of understanding the perspectives of other cultures.

11 Louder than Words Students Learn: …… the importance of developing recognition of nonverbal communication within cultural groups. ...how to identify statements that are accurate concerning the use of body language in different cultures. …… how to identify appropriate behavior according to the customs of the listed country or culture. ……How to select items that reflect good listening habits to enhance communication between intercultural business people.

12 Total Learning Experience Students will work in teams of three to build a 2 week itinerary to visit Japan. Each team is competing for a bid on a specific technology project. The professor’s role is CEO of the Japanese firm with limited knowledge of English. We have fun learning!
