Homework Next Week Read and answer questions about Phonics A-Z pages 79-109 Pick two activities that you think you would like to teach (You will teach these activities in two weeks) so that you can prepare a route map for them next class You will turn in your one sentence summaries for the extensive reading you have done

Extensive Reading Book Share the book you have chosen with a partner or your group members Why did you pick? Who are the characters? What do you think so far? Why?

One Sentence Summaries In week 6, 9 and 13 you will need to submit your one sentence summaries A good summary describes the people, the problem or conflict and the events associated with the resolution of the problem or conflict

One Sentence Summaries Look at page 51 Look at the five summaries that Su Jin did. In each summary try to identify The characters The problem or conflict Events associated with the eventual resolution

Morning Message Discuss the answers for 1 and 2 on page 31 Share your ideas from question 4

Morning Message: Uses and Benefits Provides daily non-intensive reading practice Allows T to model reading strategies for decoding and comprehension Can be used for writing practice Gives Ss a task while T handles administrative duties (attendance/homework) Can be used to introduce new topics, themes, words, expressions or structures Helps to recycle and reuse key words, expressions and structures Gapping, highlighting, underlining, and using rebus symbols draws Ss attn to key features of the TL Can be used for pronunciation practice

Make Your Own Morning Message Think about a class that you have taught or that you might teach Discuss those “students” & “unit theme” with your partner or group members Brainstorm some ideas (use questions 3’s space) Let’s create our own Morning Message/Daily Letter in class!

Share Morning Message With Classmates Set the context: Who are the Ss? What is the topic or theme? Describe the procedures: What will you do as the T? What will Ss do? Explain the purpose & rationale: Why does the T/Ss do what they are doing? What is the desired learning outcome?
