National Geospatial Advisory Committee NGAC Emerging Technologies Subcommittee Membership  Mike Byrne (Chair), Sean Ahearn, Jack Dangermond, Tim Loewenstein, Anne Miglarese, Kim Nelson, Gene Schiller, Chris Tucker  Stephen Lowe (USDA) will serve as FGDC ExCom liaison Purpose  Explore emerging technologies and provide advice and recommendations to the FGDC regarding those technologies and their application to advance geospatial programs, products, and services.  Potential initial topics include: data.gov apps.gov cloud computing place-based initiatives social networking tools

2. National Geospatial Advisory Committee NGAC Emerging Technologies Subcommittee Operations  The subcommittee will report results of their research and draft recommendations to the NGAC membership and the FGDC Chair and Executive Committee. Final action on recommendations by full NGAC Timeframe  Established: August 2009  Hold initial team meeting: November 2009  Develop project plan, with guidance from FGDC ExCom: November 2009 – March 2010  Discussion at December NGAC meeting  Refinement and ongoing briefings beginning with March meeting

National Geospatial Advisory Committee Subcommittee Objectives Develop a base set of literature on emerging technologies for the committee With a focus on cloud computing, identify and assess what the next 10 years will be like for geospatial technologies Provide advice and recommendations on how applications like apps.gov and data.gov need to grow and develop with emerging technologies Provide advice and recommendations on how tools like social networking will influence geospatial technologies Develop recommendations on how emerging technologies might influence the placed based initiatives of the administration.
