Tension of Trusting Why is it difficult to seek help? For fear of being seen as incompetent, dependent, and vulnerable (Lee, 2002). Is this a problem? According to US Department of Education, over a third of new teachers quit within three years. A leading cause of this attrition are school’s “sink or swim” culture of non- helping (Ingersoll, 2002).
