What is Copyright? Copyright is a legal concept The creator of an original work has exclusive rights Creator may use or distribute work (Wikipedia).

Exclusive Rights The copyright holder can: – import or export their works – produce copies of their own work and sell them – sell copyrights to others

Copyright Duration This will depend on the creation of the work: can be protected up until 70 years after the author’s death. protected 95 years from publication or 120 years from creation

Public Domain This includes the following: 1.all works that aren’t protected by copyright. 2.works that were established in US before 1923

Penalties of Copyright Pay for damages and profits gained Fines from $200 to $150,000 Pay for all attorneys fees and court costs Go to jail.
