October 2002 INFN Catania 10

October 2002 INFN Catania 11

October 2002 INFN Catania 12 The CESNET association •Stands for Czech Educational and Scientific NETwork •Longtime Czech NationalResearch Educational Network operator & developer (since 1993) •R&D on advanced network technologies and applications •Shareholder of the Dante •Internet2 international partner •Participant of the GEANT project •CESNET CA provides PKI services for the Czech academic community (activity within WP6 project) •http://www.cesnet.cz/pki/http://www.cesnet.cz/pki/

October 2002 INFN Catania 13 The CESNET (2) •Now CESNET2 - new generation of the networking technologies: – Packet-over-SONET/SDH technology : all core lines are operating at 2.5 Gbps – Backbone nodes using Cisco products – Multicasting provided, part of the Mbone network – IP version6 and 6bone connectivity provided • The network has two independent international connections – 1.2 Gbps line to GEANT for the academic traffic – 622 Mbps line to BCE Teleglobe, for commodity traffic • http://www.cesnet.cz/english/ http://www.cesnet.cz/english/

October 2002 INFN Catania 14

October 2002 INFN Catania 17 Guided by our interests and by the possibilities available for us within the LHCC Grid Project initiative in Prague we have specified our objectives such as...

October 2002 INFN Catania 18 Our plans • To test EDG 1.2 after it gets installed on the PC farm at FZU in Prague and prospectively the same with GENIUS • To install/use/test/maintain alien on nodes available at the FZU in Prague (with/without root privileges) • To purchase and install a couple of rack servers designated for integration into the FZU PC farm (on the way) and this way become "shareholders" in the initiative of this CC to become a Tier2 site in the LHC Computing Grid Project • To get a Charles University EPP Department student to get involved into maintaining and testing alien, possibly also EDG software, on the the cluster at FZU
