line Line is the path of a point moving through space.

shape Shape implies spatial form and is usually perceived as two- dimensional. Organic/Geom etric

form Form has depth, length, and width and resides in space. It is perceived as three-dimensional.

color Colors all come from the three primaries and black and white. They have three properties – hue, value, and intensity.

color hue: name of color value: the lightness or darkness of color intensity: the brightness or dullness of a color

color primary colors red, yellow, blue secondary colors green, orange, violet (purple) tertiary colors yellow-green, yellow-orange, red-orange, red- violet, blue-green, blue-violet

color color scheme: a planned combination of colors complementary colors: colors that are across from each other on the color wheel analogous colors: colors that are next to each other on the color wheel monochromatic: the use of only one color in a work, will include various values and intensities of that color warm colors: reds, oranges, some yellows cool colors: blues, violets, greens, some yellows

value Value refers to relative lightness and darkness and is perceived in terms of varying levels of contrast.

texture Texture refers to the tactile qualities of a surface (actual) or to the visual representation of such surface qualities (implied).

space Space refers to the area in which art is organized.
