3. Topics Covered In Year 4  Hidden Treasures (Anglo Saxons) – settlements, religion, kings and rulers. Make brooches and settlements.  Let There Be Light - Making circuits, switches and lighting bulbs. Dangers of Electricity, R.E. - Festivals of light, Divali and Christmas. Firework poems, explanations, play scripts.  Dem Bones - Skeletons and muscles, moving and growing. Skeleton poems and non chronological reports

4. Topics Covered In Year 4  Incredible Journeys (Vikings) - Viking voyages and Viking longships. Science – Changes of State and the water cycle. Poetry, information text and report writing.  The Normans  Geography – Scandinavia – settlements, rivers, mountains, commerce. France.  RE – Christianity and Hinduism.  Music – the recorder  MFL - Spanish

Numeracy  Know all tables up to 12 x 12  Round to 10, 100, 1000  Column addition up to 1000  Column addition, subtraction and multiplication (subtraction - decomposition method)  Multiply and divide mentally  Standard short multiplication  Roman numerals up to 100  Recognise decimals to 2 d.p.  Use the words H T 1’s not H T U.  Please can children learn how to tell the time on an analogue clock

6. Homework  Mental Maths- (Yellow book) is given out on Friday and will be tested the following Friday.  Spellings- All spellings will be given out on Monday and tested the following Monday.  Either Literacy or Numeracy- This will be given out on Tuesday and returned on Friday of the same week.  Topic Work- Occasionally the children will be asked to complete homework.

7. Trips During Year 4  Anglo Saxons – Tatton Park (Sept 2015) - £15  Dem Bones – Liverpool Museum (Jan 2016) – approx £6  Habitats -Mere Sands Wood (June 2016) Approx £8  Preparation for Conwy.

8. Behaviour Management  Classroom Behaviour is managed through a traffic light system for clarity.  Green – All children start day on green and should remain here.  Amber – If children misbehave in class, either disturb others, call out etc they are given polite warning. If this is ignored and they persist in misbehaviour, they move to Amber. Misses 5 mins playtime.  Red - If children still ignore further warnings they move to Red. Consequences miss all of following break time.  Parents of children persistently on Red will be informed so that together we can help the child.

9. Correct uniform  White shirt or blouse, (must be tucked in), St Andrews tie, (top button to be done up and tie to be smartly fastened), grey skirt or trousers, knee length white or grey socks, or grey tights,smart black shoes (not trainers), blue school jumper or navy blue jumper.  Please can children learn to tie their own tie.  Jewellery – small stud earrings only, watch.  Hair – long hair must be tied back, hair accessories must be small and plain and in school colours.  No nail varnish – children wearing nail varnish will be sent to office to remove it.

10. Swimming Children in Year 4 will have swimming lessons for approximately 6 weeks each during the Summer Term. They must have swimming caps. They are not allowed to wear earrings – swimming pool policy. If children are not able to remove their earrings they will not be allowed to swim. Boys must wear trunks either short speedo type or longer lycra shorts. None with lining or pockets. Girls must wear a full swim suit – not a bikini or tankini. 4P start Wednesday 20 April 4S start Wednesday 8 th June

13. Any Questions? Colours children are asked to wear for sports day are their team colours, which is the same as their star chart and group for PE. The children know their team colour.
