National recognition for collaborative care, education and related research initiatives 2. Patient & family outcomes / quality of care 3. Student success rate in RC exams, success of recruitment efforts (from QU) 4. Research productivity & funding, strategic research areas 5. Faculty & staff retention / engagement 6. Track record of tangible patient / family advocacy successes 7. High approval ratings in local communities & institutions Mission Create the foundations for an integrated, inter-professional, and collaborative mental health program for South- Eastern Ontario through engaging our staff, faculty, students and key partners in: Delivering high quality services to our patients; develop and disseminate the new knowledge foundations for inter- professional collaborative care Increasing our efforts in recruitment, faculty development and succession planning Clearly defining the organization, roles and responsibilities, and providing equitable compensation Meeting the new standards for undergraduate and postgraduate education programs Identifying the key focus areas for a collaborative research program Leading the development of partnerships and integration with key stakeholders, such as persons with mental disorders, our community partners, and other groups within the university Objectives 2012 1. Excellence in Service Provision – improvement of interdivisional service understand and streamline cross referrals 2. Continue to encourage research involvement, directions and definition of research priorities of the Department 3. Development of excellent core residency psychiatry training program 4. Develop measurable outcomes for annual & summative (2014) objectives 5. Implementation of the Practice Plan so all psychiatrists needs are fairly met with transparency 6. Recruitment and retention of residents & faculty Excellence in Service Provision 1. Increased integration of services across divisions, hospitals and lifespan 2. Develop/integrate a city wide community mental health team in collaboration with the family physicians. Collaborative Research 1. Increase participation in on-going research by establishing a faculty peer-mentoring research group 2. Identify research themes for the department in line with those of the School of Medicine, University, and granting agencies 3. Complete an on-line database of research interests for faculty, residents, and medical students Measurable Outcomes Identify tools to measure success in all areas (clinical, research, teaching and administrative) of the 2014 strategic plan goals and objectives Excellent Core Residency Program 1. Further refine the evaluation process for residents 2. Improve the process for evaluation of faculty members 3. Expand develop and implement psychotherapy training as per new requirements of RC (resident and supervisor) 4. Focus on provision of training re professionalism role for trainees 5. Actively support the student driven Queens Psychiatry Interest Group 6. Creating a critical mass of faculty with skills in examination creation in keeping with the requirements of the UGME curriculum committee 7. Develop and implement a relevant and integrated UG program in the context of an evolving UGME curriculum Practice Plan 1. Establish budgets for all Departmental Committees/Programs and for Divisions. 2. Increase the financial knowledge and understanding of members of the Department. 3. Set realistic and equitable target incomes. 4. Utilize standard accounting practices to monitor accounts - both income and expenses. 5. With the guidance of members of the Department, develop policies for financial issues. Excellent Core Residency Program  Further refine evaluation progress for residents & faculty  Expand psychotherapy training  Focus on training of professionalism role for trainees  Create critical mass of faculty with skills in examination creation in keeping with UGME curriculum requirements  Develop and integrate UG program in the context of an evolving UGME curriculum Excellence in Service Provision  Increase integration of services across divisions, hospitals and lifespan  Develop/integrate a city wide community mental health team in collaboration with GPs Recruitment & Retention  Advertise in Canadian & International forums  Meet with residents to discuss career goals and identify potential future positions  Offer career guidance to all faculty  Engage new faculty in postgraduate teaching Milestones for 2012 Collaborative Research  Increase participation in ongoing research; establish peer-mentoring research group  Identify research themes for the Dept in line with School of Medicine, University & granting agencies  Complete an online database of research interests for all faculty, residents and medical students. To interview senior psychiatry residents to identify potential steps which could help recruit graduating residents to stay as faculty (including fellowship funding option) 2. Advertisement of available positions on the appropriate forums in Canada & in countries with similar health systems 3. To interview new GFT’s hired to identify potential steps which could help in retention of faculty members 4. Put more emphasis to clinical induction 5. Increase involvement of new faculty in post- graduate training 6.Career guidance(developing sessions for career guidance similar to faculty development)
