Documentary Short A theatrically released nonfiction motion picture. Deals creatively with:cultural, artistic, historical, social, scientific, economic or other subjects. It may be filmed in actual occurrence, or may employ partial re-enactment, stock, footage, stills, animation, stop-motion or other techniques emphasis is on fact and not on fiction.

Experimental or Avant-Garde Describes a range of filmmaking styles that are generally quite different from, and often opposed to, the practices of mainstream commercial and documentary filmmaking. Avant-garde represents a pushing of the boundaries of what is accepted as the norm

Experimental film is often characterized by the absence of linear narrative, the use of various abstracting techniques (out of focus, painting or scratching on film, rapid editing), the use of asynchronous (non-diegetic) sound or even the absence of any sound track. The goal is often to place the viewer in a more active and more thoughtful relationship to the film.

Hans Richter Richter believed that the artist's duty was to be actively political, opposing war and supporting the revolution. Ghosts Before Breakfast does not present a coherent narrative, and includes a number of seemingly arbitrary images.
