What are tenements? Why people are crowded in a houses? Why were people live very poor in tenements?

A room or set rooms forming separate residence within a the house or block of apartments. By 1900, more than 80,000 tenements had been built in New York City. They housed a population of 2.3 million people, a full two- thirds of the city's total population of around 3.4 million. People got about $1 for 10 hours or $8-10 for a week!

Who was the U.S. president during that time? Were people starving, poor, crowded and restless. Average workers make $1 a day? What were their home looks like? Why people live in house near other people in house? Does deaf people work during that time, if so what do they work?

Poor people can’t afford cars or taxi… Poor people have to walk or bike to their work. Many kids did not go to school, instead went to work. Many kids’ parent cant afford something, so kids have to go to work to help their parent afford bills, foods, clothes and medicine.
