DLP ® Technology: How do we project digital images?

How many of you have seen a movie at the movie theater recently? Do you remember seeing a screen that incorporates this logo? Today, we’re going to talk about the technology that allows digital images to be projected on screens, and this technology is used in movie theaters, classrooms, and even tablets. DLP technology

As students, how might you use a phone that can project images or videos to study? Brainstorm with a partner, and then let’s hear some ideas. DLP technology in our phone

DLP Chip Invented in 1987 by an engineer at Texas Instruments. It’s basically a very sophisticated light switch with lot of mirrors inside, which turn on and off very quickly. When you combine this DLP chip with a video or graphic signal, a light source, and a projection lens, the mirrors inside this chip can then reflect a digital image onto a flat surface. DLP Technology

This paragraph describes how DLP chips work. You have 5 minutes to fill in the blanks with your best guesses. You can work independently or in partners. How DLP technology works

Inside a DLP chip, there can be over mirrors. These mirrors are so small that mirrors side by side measures the width of a human hair. … The mirrors switch on and off very quickly: up to times each second… …By the way, you may not realize this, but a normal light bulb flickers about times a second… … There is a color filter in the DLP projection system that creates at least colors and up to colors. 8 million 5 10,000 60 16.7 million 35 trillion 8 million 5 10,000 60 16.7 million 35 trillion Were you correct?

Implications of scale What might be challenging about working with very small or very fast things? Turn to your partner and brainstorm some ideas – we’ll share in a few minutes.

Being a scientist or a mathematician is about solving problems. Today, you got to solve the kind of problems that engineers and entrepreneurs may tackle. I hope you enjoyed the process, and I hope you’ll continue studying math and science in order to become better problem solvers. Any questions?
