2 What is Post-Impressionism
the work or style of a varied group of late 19th-century and early 20th-century artists including Van Gogh, Gauguin, and Cézanne. They reacted against the naturalism of the impressionists to explore color, line, and form, and the emotional response of the artist, a concern that led to the development of expressionism.

3 Impressionism 19th-century art movement that originated with a group of Paris-based artists. Their independent exhibitions brought them to prominence during the 1870s and 1880s, in spite of harsh opposition from the conventional art community in France. Monet, Renoir, Cassatt, Degas In the 1860s, the composition's flat horizontal bands of color would have reminded sophisticated viewers of Japanese color woodblock prints, which were avidly collected by Monet, Manet, Renoir, Whistler, and others in their circle.
