Persistent Allocation and De-Allocation Signaling The persistent allocation and de-allocation can be conveyed via broadcast MAC management messages like DL-MAP or primary management MAC management messages Challenges of using DL/UL-MAP message –Additional ACK procedure need to be defined, implicit or explicit, to ensure the reliable communication of persistent scheduling assignment/termination –Submaps are needed in order to use proper MCS for the DL/UL-MAP message transmission –Lack of coding benefit from Chase or IR Benefits of using primary management MAC management messages –Naturally have the ACK procedure and proper MCS usage in place due to the use of HARQ. Neither standard changes nor extra developments are needed. –Additional coding benefit for the signaling message due to the use of HARQ with Chase or IR
3
Summary of Benefit Due to the “persistency” nature, the allocation and de- allocation signaling is expected to be none frequent (~1/sec/flow) and on individual user bases, like call setup. Individual message is more proper for this use rather than the frame by frame(5ms) broadcast DL/UL-MAP. Use primary management MAC management message for persistent scheduling assignment/ termination requires less standard changes than DL/UL-MAP to achieve the equivalent performance. The standard change needed is simple and straight forward Less development changes
4
Reliable Persistent Allocation Signaling Procedure Persistent schedule signaling message is sent with HARQ reliability –New MAC management messages need to be standardized for persistent schedule signaling messages Persistent schedule (DL and/or UL) is used by the BS only after it receives ACK from the MS –BS retransmits persistent schedule signaling information as per existing HARQ/ARQ schemes No additional delay because the BS (MS) can continue to send VoIP bursts with dynamic scheduling using DL-MAP (UL-MAP) MS continues to read DL-MAP (UL-MAP) even after persistent schedule is enforced for reading changes, termination, etc. of the persistent schedule Ack for persistent schedule signaling is received here Persistent Schedule signaling VoIP Burst#2 VoIP Burst#3 VoIP Burst# n VoIP Burst#1
5
Signaling of Persistent Scheduling Introduce two new MAC management messages as MAC management message type 70 and 71. –DL-PSIS-MAP message –UL-PSIS-MAP message Use the Persistent DL HARQ Chase Subburst IE as specified in the baseline proposal, which includes content, such as –Periodicity, –Start time, –Expiry, –Allocation de-allocation flag, –Periodic allocation id, –ACID, –MCS, –etc. Same procedure applies to DL and UL, assignment and termination of persistent scheduling
6
Persistent Allocation Change Allocation change needed during the persistent scheduling period can be signaled using broadcast DL-MAP message so it is conveyed in a timely fashion (frame by frame) The allocation that is changed to can be specified using modified HARQ DL MAP IE with newly defined persistent DL HARQ Chase Subburst IE The allocation change can be permanent or temporary. The allocation change can be replacement or supplement A 2 bit change_type field is introduced in the DL HARQ Chase Subburst IE to indicate different change types
