3 Calumet County Vision 1. Calumet County aspires to be a great place to live and work. 10 votes 2. We envision that Calumet County strives to be the leader in developing partnerships with businesses, communities, and our citizens to deliver programs and services. 7 votes 3. Calumet County aspires to be the best place to live in the State of Wisconsin. 1 vote

4 Calumet County Mission 1. Calumet County government’s mission is to: 10 votes develop partnerships to provide a strong, diverse economy; balance growth with the preservation of farmland and the natural environment/resources; deliver effective county services in an efficient, courteous, and responsive manner that maintains accountability to our constituents. 2. Calumet County government’s mission is to provide courteous, effective, efficient, and responsive services to the citizens of Calumet County, while maintaining accountability to the constituents. 3 votes 3. Calumet County government’s mission is to assure that services are provided courteously, effectively, efficiently, and responsively to the citizens of Calumet County, while maintaining accountability to the constituents. 3 votes 4. Calumet County government’s mission is to operate like a business delivering services in a timely, courteous, effective, efficient, and responsive manner to meet the needs of its citizens. 2 votes

5 Calumet County Values 1. Integrity – We build public trust through proactive, innovative, moral, and open-minded leadership at all levels that respects tradition but welcomes new ideas 70 points* 2. Accountable – We practice fiscally responsible behaviors that utilize tax dollars and resources to balance our budget with a focus on services that are most important to our taxpayers 55 points 3. Teamwork – We value and encourage opportunities to collaborate at all levels with and among our staff, citizens, businesses, governments, and others who have a stake in the county. 54 points 4. Transparent – We demonstrate respectful, responsive and open communication that values input from our public 46 points 5. Customer focus – We determine our customer needs by seeking input, demonstrating results, and delivering programs that meet people’s needs 37 points *Participants asked to rank values. Point system assigned 5 points to first choice, 4 points to second choice, 3 points to third choice and so on.

6 Calumet County Strategic Issues/Directions 1. County Budget and Fiscal Needs – maintain solid, long-term financial security in the face of economic uncertainty and decreasing revenues, including solutions such as intergovernmental collaboration, operating like a business, restructuring departments, and eliminating duplication of services. It also includes concerns about taxes, union contracts, state/federal funding cuts, staff wages, and how to continue to provide funding for important services during peak demands such as in highway and human services. 45 points* 2. Jobs and Economic Development – address concerns with job loss, unemployment and low wages; establish Calumet County as a place to grow your business. 45 points 3. Urban/Rural Conflicts – overcome perceived and real differences in the needs between “the north and the south”; including issues of appropriate growth, ag land loss and preservation, land use planning and Working Lands Initiative/Purchase of Development Rights. 29 points 4. Quality of the Environment – maintain a quality environment including groundwater, soil, sewer and water services, and parks/trails 19 points 5. County Board Operation/Organization – more effective Calumet County Board operation, committee appointments, the voting process, lack of communication with constituents, getting youth involved, needing a vision, modifying board/committee structure, and the need to function as the group that sets the vision 18 points 6. Alternative Energy – support alternative energy, including wind, solar, geothermal, etc. 6 points *Participants asked to rank issues. Point system assigned 5 points to first choice, 3 points to second choice, 1 point to third choice. Tie for 1 st place
