Building A Successful Program More Than Just X’s and O’s

Buy-In! Family and player involvement generates a sense of excitement in the families about being a part of something greater than themselves.

Family Buy-In Don’t limit involvement to just parents! Hold family events and fundraisers that allows families to get to know one another and work for the greater good of the organization. Kick off the season with an event that brings everyone together.

Family Buy-In Hold a special meeting to review your rules, expectations, and goals. Send mailing inviting them to a meeting before the end of school year. At the meeting have a place for parents to sign up to work or chair different events pertaining to the football program. Keep families involved and more importantly informed. Generate a weekly newsletter.

Player Buy-In School Preview Night for Freshmen. Activities Night Weight Room Orientation Mail Invitations to each of those events. Hold a meeting before school is out for summer. Have camps available, calendars, summer schedule and events.

Off Season Preparation! Weight Training is crucial! Brainstorm ideas with your coaching staff. Take the time to find the needs of your program. Do your homework on weight training. Research programs that fit your needs. Select a couple of your assistant coaches who have an interest in weight training to concentrate their efforts on coaching weight training.

Off Season Preparation! Design a weight training program that creates an atmosphere for team bonding. Get your players excited about weight training. Hold weekly challenges in the weight room based on individual goals. Have a program that is designed to move quickly-yet produces results. Players will not want to stay a long time in the weight room.

Off Season Preparation! Find ways for your team to compete and maintain the interest for your players during the off season. Take your players to power lifting meets, line- men challenges, and 7 on 7 competitions.

Team Vision Define the future of your team by rallying team members with strong ideas and techniques. Players must have a clear understanding about their role on the team and their importance. Simplify your strategy. Players are stretched in many directions today.

Team Vision! Raise the academic bar of expectation. Ineligible players will kill a program. Develop a tutoring program. Mental attitudes of the players is everything. Make sure every players knows their strengths and contributions to team success whether they start or not. Get as many players on the field as possible.

Final Thoughts to Building Success! Its more than just about skill players. Excitement will overflow into the entire school and boost the atmosphere. Everyone including coaches will find themselves rejuvenated. Create atmosphere that is all inclusive.

People will come where they are invited, but stay where they feel welcome!
