Nouns ▪ Person, place, thing, idea ▪ Abstract vs Concrete? – Puppy – Bravery – Pizza – Happiness – Principal – Principle

Verb ▪ Make statements about nouns; express actions, conditions, or states of being ▪ Intransitive – An action verb that does not have a direct object – Huffing and puffing, we arrived at the classroom door with only seven seconds to spare. – Arrived = intransitive verb. ▪ Transitive – An action verb with a direct object – Sylvia kicked Juan under the table. – Kicked = transitive verb; Juan = direct object.

Adjective // Adverbs ▪ Descriptive words: what kind, which one, how many? ▪ Words, phrases, clauses ▪ Change the meaning of verbs, adjectives, and other adverbs ▪ Answer the questions how, when, where, why

Suffixes ▪ Greek and Latin: more Latin based than Greek ▪ Identify if the word is a noun, adjective, verb ▪ Majority we will cover: nouns ▪ Goal: identify suffix and meaning, connect to root and meaning ▪ Suffix Sheet: suffix and meaning provided, we create example words ▪ As we’re going through, how can we identify the meaning of the root based on the suffix?
