Poverty in Africa By Rameez Syed
2
The inequities that exist in most of the ‘third world nations Around 80 percent population lives in poverty without proper access to clean water, basic food, health care, education, clothing and houses. These people survive on minimum wages because of the policies of the government and multinational companies in order to keep people poor and continuously marginalized. There are several reasons for the cause of poverty in Africa, a few of which are listed below: Most Africans work on farmlands owned by rich landlords, who pay them minimum salary. Corrupt governments make policies to keep the poor marginalized. Armed militia/forces destroy homes and remove people from their land of birth

Most of the funds end up in the hands of corrupt policy makers Over $500 billion (US) has been sent to African nations as aid but even this has provided little relief to the extreme conditions in which the poor people are living. Because most of the funds end up in the hands of corrupt governments, who in turn invest in weapons and spend very little on eliminating poverty through good educational institutions or setting up basic health care units. Most of the time, people don’t have any access to clean water so disease and grief are very common. Money from other sources such as private charities also ends up in the pocket of corrupt officials.
