Eggplant Vs Ungardened Soil By. Lexy C.

Observation/Prior Knowledge Nitrogen, Potassium, and Phosphorus elements help with the plants being grown in the soil. Also the elements can tell about what type of invertebrates can live in the soil, what type of texture the soil has, the color of it, and also the amount of moisture in the soil. The amount of elements in the soil can tell what kind of plants can thrive and be grown in the soil.

Soil Scientific Inquiry Question- If we measure the chemistry of the soil that eggplants were recently grown in will it be less healthy than soil that has had nothing grown in it?

Hypotheses If we test eggplant soil and regular ungardened soil Then the eggplant soil will be less fertile Because the nutrients and minerals in the soil have been absorbed into the eggplant roots and used.

Material LaMotte Soil Chemistry Testing Kit Potassium Testing Phosphorus Testing Nitrogen Testing Pen/Pencil Recording Sheet/ Data Sheet

Procedure Potassium Testing on Ungardened Soil Potassium Testing on Eggplant Soil Phosphorus Testing on Ungardened Soil Phosphorus Testing on Eggplant Soil Nitrogen Testing on Ungardened Soil Nitrogen Testing on Eggplant Soil Compare/Record Data Conclusion

Data Table Potassium (K) Phosphorus (P) Nitrogen (N) Ungardened SoilHighLowHigh Eggplant SoilMedium High High

Comparison Levels Of NPK 1 = Low 2 = Medium 3 = High

Conclusion Soil that recently had eggplants grown in it is more healthy and fertile than ungardened soil. According to the data sheet where there was more “high” and “medium-high” in eggplant soil than there was in ungardened soil. I was wrong in my hypothesis when I said that the eggplant soil would be less healthier than ungardened soil. It makes me wonder if eggplant soil is healthier than carrot soil?
