Year 6 Science Australian Curriculum Science provides opportunities for students to: ●develop an understanding of important science concepts and processes ●develop scientific knowledge of science’s contribution to our culture and society, and its applications in our lives ●develop scientific knowledge, understandings and skills to make informed decisions about local, national and global issues and to participate, if they so wish, in science-related careers

Science strands Science Understanding - Physical sciences Science as a Human Endeavour - Science influences society by posing, and responding to, social and ethical questions, and scientific research is itself influenced by the needs and priorities of society. Science Inquiry Skills

General Capabilities Literacy - high level of scientific language Numeracy - calculations in working out energy flow Information and communication technology (ICT) capability - MOOC account, participating in and contributing to online conversations, online formative assessment and feedback, use of Google Docs, Photo Booth and uploading movies to Google Drive, emailing reflections and ratings, use class wiki, TV Channel- news report (YouTube) Critical and creative thinking - clarify concepts, make comparisons, evaluate knowledge in each module quiz Personal and social capability - working effectively in teams and handling challenging information, explore how scientific debate provides a means of contributing to their communities Ethical understanding - use of scientific information to evaluate claims and to inform ethical decisions about a range of social, environmental and personal issues, for example carbon emissions, use of renewable and non- renewable energy Intercultural understanding - understanding national identities

Cross Curricular priorities Sustainability Allows students to develop the knowledge, skills, value and world views necessary for them to act in ways that contribute to more sustainable patterns of living. It will enable students and communities to reflect on ways of interpreting and engaging with the world. The Sustainability priority is futures-oriented, focusing on protecting environments and creating a more ecologically and socially just world through informed action. Actions that support more sustainable patterns of living require consideration of environmental, social, cultural and economic systems and their interdependence.
