Multi-Service IP Interconnect 6 th May 2005

Multi-Service IP Interconnect A Multi-Service Interconnect Link to support PPCs PSTN/ISDN DataStream Multi-Media services Customer Sited Interconnect (CSI) and In-Span Interconnect (ISI) with bandwidths of STM-1, STM-4 and STM-16/GigE Consideration also to be given to smaller customers with a minimal bandwidth of 2 Mbit/s. Interconnect service links will connect to BT’s Metro Nodes/sites. An Interconnection to allow OLOs with similar IP based networks to interconnect with BT.

Multi-Service IP Interconnect Multi-Service IP Interconnect - a simplistic view

21C Converged Platform overview

Transport Design Access (Day 1) Multi-Service IP Interconnect at Metro Nodes with both ISH/CSH variants Consideration being given to bandwidths of sub STM-1 NB SDH fibre pipes will connect to Metro Node via the co-located Fibre MSAN Bearer Bandwidth Customer InterfacePick & Mix Services Point of Interconnect STM-1STM-1 AggregateNo (PSTN or Data)FMSAN STM-4STM-4 AggregateYes (PSTN &Data)FMSAN STM-16STM-1. STM-4 or STM-16 Aggregate GigE interface Yes (PSTN &Data)FMSAN GigEGigE, 10/100BaseT, STM-4 or STM16, Yes (PSTN &Data)Metro node only

Transport Technologies SDH and Ethernet over SDH/GFP for early installations, for backhaul of MSAN traffic to the Metro sites. IP/MPLS for 21C access this remains the target architecture although not mature enough at this time. SDH and Ethernet to be used for the IP Interconnect bearer circuit to support all L1/L2 based services.

IP Interconnect Signalling for PSTN/ISDN NICC is already addressing the signalling specification to support PSTN/ISDN services between two NGN networks using IP. BT fully supports the NICC work and its agreements to date, including: Agreement to develop a SIP(I) specification for the UK. Specification to be based on the international standard ITU-T Q1912.5 There are a number of features including 999/112 service, number portability, operator services and some features of CLI that are UK specific and are likely to remain different to the global feature set, hence the need for UK-ISUP rather than ETSI-ISUP

Interconnect Signalling – Other Services SIP SIP (i.e. SIP without the encapsulated ISUP) is expected to be the basis for interconnect signalling between IP networks to support multimedia services and voice services not requiring the full PATS feature set. ISUP v. IUP Opportunity for conversion from legacy, non-international standard IUP signalling in UK networks to the UK-ISUP standard. IUP supported via legacy NGS platform till 2010.

Development Timescales May 2006- beta trial November 2006- Product Launch to coincide with start of mass deployment
