2 First Americans This presentation provides detailed information on five First American tribes. The material covered herein satisfies the following Virginia SOLs: –USI.3, USI.3a, USI.3b

3 First Americans American Indians (First Americans) inhabited all regions of North America. First Americans were resourceful. All tribes used their surroundings to survive. They used natural resources for food, clothing, and shelter. 4 Inuit Lived in area that is present-day Alaska and northern Canada. Climate is arctic; temperature below freezing much of the year. Used seals, fish, whales, and caribou for food. Natural resources were seals, whales, and caribou. 8 Kwakiutl Lived in Pacific Northwest Climate was rainy and mild; not too hot or cold. Food was fish, deer, berries, and roots. Natural resources were deer and wood. 10 Pueblo Lived in southwest, present-day Arizona and New Mexico. Climate is desert bordering cliffs and mountains. Food was corn, beans, and squash, a.k.a. the Three Sisters. The primary natural resource used was clay.
