Why I chose to interview a General Contractor and how I met Mike McKie I chose to interview a GC (General Contractor) because as a kid my father would take me too his job sites and I was fascinated by the tractors and all the stuff going on. Since then I have developed a interest for construction. When I asked my dad if he knew anyone I could interview he immediately recommended that I interview Mike McKie and he gave me his email.

Questions Q: What do you do for a living? A: Mostly residential general contracting, home building and remolding in residential areas. Turning clients visions into reality. Q: How long have you been doing this job? A: 27 years Q: What education do you have? A: A degree in Finance from university of Colorado boulder

Questions Q: What experience did you have before you became a GC? A: His first job was working for a general contractor on his parents house and he worked summers in high school and collage as a carpenter for various general contractors in the valley. Q: What do you like about your job? A: The relationship with the owners, architects, Designers, and tradesmen. Each job has a definite beginning and end. Q: What is the hardest part of your job? A: Creating realistic expectations.

Questions Q: What is a typical day at your job? A: lots of phone, email, and face to face communication with suppliers, sub contractors, employs, owners, architects, Designers, and regulatory agencies. Q: What advice to you have for someone who would like to become a GC? A: organization and attention to detail are the most important skills as well as the ability to react to ever changing circumstances.
