Data collected by the CDHS 2000 on the utilization of health services by the Cambodian population can be used to assess the Ministry of Health’s Health Coverage Plan. It can be used to provide a first- round analysis of health care delivery under the new plan.

16
Main Findings Although accidental death or injury is low, a majority of those are due to car accidents, followed by falls from height. Illnesses, birth and land mines/guns are the most common reasons for impairment, but they vary greatly by age. When household members were ill or injured in the past 30 days, they sought their 1 st treatment mostly from a private or a non-medical source, rather than a public source.
17
When ill or injured, the population rarely seeks a 2nd or a 3 rd treatment, but when they do, they again prefer to go to the private or non-medical sector. The private, and most notably the non- medical sector, are much less expensive than the public sector in terms of health care and transportation costs. The source of money spent to pay health care is mostly from savings or from wages and/or pocket money.
