Central Lancashire Arts Health Network (CLAHN) 2007 - 2010 A Case Study

Central Lancashire Arts Health Network A network of local authority arts officers including: Lancashire County Council Preston City Council Chorley Council West Lancashire Council South Ribble Council with support from: Manchester Metropolitan University’s Arts for Health project Arts Council England NHS Central Lancashire Primary Care Trust

Established in 2007 by the Arts Service at South Ribble Council The Aims of the CLAHN network: To commission a mapping of arts health provision in the Central Lancashire PCT footprint To assess joint health needs and priorities across Central Lancashire To inform future activity and direction of the network

o Key Stages in the Project: JAG consultants were selected to undertake: Consultation workshops carried out with public, private and voluntary stakeholders The mapping of arts health provision in Central Lancashire To provide recommendations and a 3 year action plan. Mapping and recommendations presented at a networking event in February 2010 Key Recommendations from the JAG Report Define the scope of work with the steering group

Key Findings & Recommendations There is a great deal of valuable, valued but fragmented arts health activity in Lancashire The profile of the work would be raised by: Improved co-ordination of project activity Development of a strategic approach to ensure organisational buy- in More opportunities for sharing and learning from good practise Suggested constitution of the group Suggested piloting of similar themed project in different geographical areas of Central Lancashire

Next Steps? To trial a pilot project across Central Lancashire with a healthy workforce employer identified by the local Primary Care Trust. Issues ! Lack of capacity of local government arts officers to develop the pilot due to local government re- organisation, redeployment and redundancies.

What Next? Continuity and legacy Lesson learned: complete a full project risk analysis from the start to include the loss of key group members Remaining group members to commissioning an arts organisation to deliver the pilot. Discussion? Thank you.
