Oil We will be kicking off this unit by exploring oil! Where is it found? What is oil? What do we make with oil? How do we use oil? These are some of the key questions we will be addressing. Alternative Transportation One of our essential questions, What would happen if we ran out of (crude) oil? We will be looking at alternative modes of transportation. Books We will be reading a book as a class, Travels with Willie, Adventure Cycling. Students will select a book and write a very thorough book review from the two column notes that they were taking while reading the book. Bike Tour We will be creating a bike tour. Letters Students will write letters of interest to a variety of people or businesses. Laws Students will be doing research on the local bike laws in the location of there bike tour. Students will create a story board depicting people demonstrating lawful bicycle riding. Time Frame This unit will take about 9-12 weeks to complete. We will be addressing most if not all of the reading standards for your grade level.
