CIVIL RIGHTS LEADERS Booker T. Washington founded the Tuskegee Institute – vocational technical education for African Americans (skills) W.E.B. DuBois (first African American graduate from Harvard) – co founder of NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People) 1909. Called for full equality among the races. His writings forced Americans of all races to think and act differently towards African Americans.
