September 11 LT: I can explain energy transfer and the motion of particles in solids, liquids, and gases. Sponge: Is density a characteristic property?

To do…

Quiz Clear your desk of everything but a pencil. Do not have wandering eyes. If you cheat, you earn a 0.

Bill Nye: Energy Complete the worksheet while you watch the video. It will be collected at the end! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WQv71 TOQ7ik https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WQv71 TOQ7ik

September 14 LT: I can identify substances based on their properties. Sponge: Is volume (a size measurement) a characteristic property?

To do… Agenda

Properties of Matter Cut and Paste Clear your desk of everything but a pencil! Copy the definitions in the box.

Properties of Matter Cut and Paste Cut and sort all the pictures first. We will compare answers. GLUE AFTER WE COMPARE! Wait for the “QUIZ YOURSELF” section.

Physical Properties

Properties of Matter Cut and Paste Complete the “Quiz Yourself” section with the following terms: Viscosity, flammability, physical (USE TWICE), chemical, luster

Reading Read pages 28 to 31. Answer the questions on NB page 63!

Reading Answers 1. They are cracks in the bridge which allow it to expand and contract in different weather without breaking the bridge.

Reading Answers 2. As the juice warms up, it expands causing the lid to pop off.

Reading Answers 3. As the alcohol heats up, it expands and rises. As it cools, it contracts and falls.

September 15 LT: I can identify substances based on their properties. Sponge: Is melting point a characteristic property?

To do… Check HW

Science Doodles – Properties of Matter Use the blue/green keys in your crate as a guide! You must WRITE everything first, then you may decorate. I’ll show you how to fold it when we are done!

Properties of Matter Worksheet Do the front only! Use each term once!

Properties of Matter Worksheet Do the top only! Use each term once!

Properties of Matter Worksheet Copy the definitions.

Properties of Matter Worksheet Fill in the last two boxes! Only worry about using the 6 from the chart ABOVE.

September 16 LT: I can explain energy transfer. Sponge: Heat always goes from _________ to ___________. Use the words cold and hot!

To do… Check HW

Flipbook – Properties of Matter Fold and cut your flipbook like mine! Fill in the missing terms using the key.

Riddles – Properties of Matter DO NOT write on the green sheet. On your whiteboard, number it 1 to 7 and record the property name. Winners get CANDY Word Bank: viscosity, melting point, conductivity, density, malleability, boiling point, hardness

September 17 LT: I can explain energy transfer. Sponge: The room is 72 degrees. Which transfers more heat – my 100 degree coffee or Bradley’s 70 degree coke?

To do…

Reading Read pages 32 to 37, answer the questions on NB 67

NB 67 1. The heat and KE from the hot cocoa goes to the cold milk making the cocoa cooler. 2. The heat and KE is leaving your hand to go to the ice cube.

NB 67 3. KE from the water transfers to the gas causing it to expand. The balloon blows up. 4. NEVER!

NB 67 5. A thermometer measure the average KE or temperature of a substance. The KE from the substance warms or cools the alcohol in the thermometer causing it to rise or fall.

Notebook page 61 Write 4 complete sentences!

September 18 LT: I can explain energy transfer. Sponge: Which has more KE – a cup of iced tea or a cup of coffee?

To do…

Poster Project directions: You may use your resources to make the poster (textbook, definitions, notebook, etc.) You have ONLY this period to finish the project You must include all aspects on the next slide – you may include more! *Use: color, pictures, creativity.

NB 69 Answer in 4 complete sentences!

September 21 LT: I can explain how natural resources are used for energy. Sponge: What are the three Rs? Reduce, _________, and ________.

To do… Agenda

Science Doodle – Energy Use Use the blue/green keys in your crate as a guide! You must WRITE everything first, then you may decorate. I’ll show you how to fold it when we are done!

Energy Vocabulary Review Copy the definitions FIRST. Then use crayons to draw the pictures!

September 22 LT: Review all! Sponge: Heat always goes from ________ to ___________. Use cold and hot.

To do… Check HW

Magic Foldable LISTEN FOR DIRECTIONS ON CUTTING AND FOLDING! Choose five terms to define on your magic foldable. Write the term on the outside. The inside must include a PICTURE and a DEFENITION!

Reading Read pages 3 to 6 in your green book. Answer the questions on NB page 25.

1. An element is a substance that cannot be broken in to simpler substances. 2. Matter is made of elements 3. When he organized the elements, he noticed gaps where missing elements should be. 4. It organizes and displays all the elements.
