1
Sit down in a group of 4 No more than 4 to a group! Leave all equipment on the desks. (Folders and Laptops) Take an A3 sheet each
2
Lesson Objective To be able to describe in detail the issues with burning hydrocarbons and some alternative fuels being developed
3
Burning Fossil Fuels What do you know? What global issues are there as a result of burning fossil fuels? What are we doing to combat these issues? What alternatives are there?
4
6 Marker Question The combustion of hydrocarbons is pivotal in providing energy to billions of people worldwide. But the effects of hydrocarbon burning are causing serious global issues. There are also alternatives to hydrocarbons being developed as future fuel sources. (Such as hydrogen fuels). Explain in detail the effects of burning hydrocarbon fuels, including details on global warming, global dimming and acid rain. In addition, explain alternative fuels being developed to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels
5
Thumbs? – Could you answer that question right now?

Task Groups of 4. You have an A3 Sheet each. There are 4 different stations around the room. 1.Global warming, 2.Global dimming, 3.Acid rain and 4.Solutions. Your group of four will split up and each person will go to one station each. You will have 15 min to LEARN your topic. You will then feedback and teach your other members of the group. Get as much detail as you can as we will attempt the 6 mark question in groups later
7
Time to Teach each other You have 3 min each to teach each other your topic. The stopwatch will be going on the board.

What makes a perfect 6 mark question? 0 Marks1 – 2 Marks3 – 4 Marks5 – 6 Marks No Relevant Content 1 or 2 points described but with no real scientific understanding. 3 or 4 points described (at least 1 effect and 1 solution). 5 -6 Points. (Minimum of two effects and two solutions) (You cant write just any old stuff down and get marks for spelling and grammar) The spelling, punctuation and grammar is weak. Poorly organised. No specialist terms. Some errors are in spelling, punctuation and grammar. The answer is structured. Specialist terms have been used but not always accurately. Spelling, punctuation and grammar is almost faultless. The answer is coherent and organised with a logical sequence. It contains appropriate or relevant terms used accurately.

6 Marker Question (On Sugar Paper) (10 min) Go! The combustion of hydrocarbons is pivotal in providing energy to billions of people worldwide. 11
Peer Mark each others answers Move groups and have a go at marking using the criteria on the board to answer the other groups answer. (Out of 6) Give annotations of how they might improve their answer.
12
Thumbs? – Have we made progress towards answering that 6 mark question?
