5 Suggested goals for printed materials:  Call you for more information  Get permission to call them to tell them more about the program  Stimulate talk between friends about the program  Get kids excited so they bug their parents to call you for more information

6  Why is face to face recruitment more successful than anything else? o Connection o Non-verbals o Harder to say “no”  What makes a good recruiter? o “Someone who looks like me” o “Someone who talks like me” o “Someone who listens”

7  Be where the parents are.  Enlist the help of other parents for recruitment ask “Where can we talk to parents at this school?”  Where do parents hang out? o Pick ups, drop offs? o Events o Sports, dance, other activities o Community events o Library o Grocery Store o Food bank

8  Come to the first meeting, if you don’t like it you don’t have to come back.  I’ll be there and so will your friend….  Is there anyone you would like to invite? We’d love your help getting more parents involved…  It’s a 1 st grade thing, all of the first grade parents are invited  I would (or have) done this myself for my own family  I like your party hat… (aka. getting to yes!)

10  Posters and Flyers that say very little about the program details, but have pictures or intriguing messages that get people talking and interested.  Pictures of incentives, ie prize baskets, gift cards  IYS is coming, are you in?  Start 2 months before program  Follow up with more detailed information 1 month before program
