Expressionism Started in Germany- group of artists that passionately believe art should be more about expressing feelings than images of the real world. Two groups: Die Brüke, Der Blaue Reiter.

Die Brüke Revival of graphic arts, especially in woodcuts. The black and white contrasts aided in the dramatic emotion, especially of the time of war, post war.

Der Blaue Rider Founded by Wassily Kandinsky ( after his “Blue Rider” painting). Focused more on color Kandinsky was the first to totally abandon any object representation in his work- the first abstract art. Convey emotion, especially from music.. Kandinsky’s “ Compositions”
