Hibiscus flowerets Fold drowsily in Buds, Raspberry pink Amidst fern-like leaves, Curled delicately, Tiny and pale, A sleeping baby’s fingers. And somewhere in this world A baby sleeps, Someone is falling in love, The pussywillows bloom, An oyster shell reveals two pearls, and You finally believe in yourself. 6. Quick Write #14 Thursday, July 28, 2011 Audition Stage-light alone Burns life into anxious hollows I will always own. Knowingly enveloped in merciless watching I am who I’m meant to be. The meddler Time accepts defeat; I can listen to echoes. Streaming pulses of my pride and gift Fly on waving unbroken wings Landing to await judgment harsh ears. Intense devotion blazes alive inside me, Swelling all the way to my eyes. It mingles with the final notes of my brave song And triumphs through my hidden chaos. The world has left me for a moment With only my love for pretending And fulfilling burning intensity of a Stage-light alone. 7. Quick Write #15 Friday, July 29, 2011 Where I Live You will come into an antique town whose houses move apart as if you interrupted a private discussion. This is the place you must pass through to get there. Imagining lives tucked in like china plates, continue driving. Beyond the landscaped streets, beyond the last colonial gas station and unsolved by zoning, is a road. It will take you to old farmhouses and trees with car-tire swings. Signs will announce hairdressing and night crawlers. The timothy grass will run beside you All the way to where I live.
