1
Audition Technique Actors get paid to feel and tap into the human need for laughter, rage and effect audiences. “I WANT to do that because that did that to me!”
2
Entering the Room Give yourself time – don’t be in a frantic rush Get into the zone (what is the zone for you?) Be calm! How do I convince myself that I am enough? Self-talk: “I am worthy of this role. I am castable.” Give good energy! (Know what you give off!) You have to embrace what you are! They want to know that YOU ARE the part. They want to see you being – not working! - Acting is the art of self realization!-
3
Bust open your heart and give it to the character! Don’t let people psych you out! The way you’re in your skin matters! Tension? Make sure your choices are grounded and strong (not just showing – but being!) What risks am I supposed to take to have feeling? What am I resistant to? What am I embarrassed of?
4
How do I ground myself? Prepare? Get in the zone – the moment before the monologue! Know your relationship, what the character wants. Imagine the offer and give back. Make your choices. Note: Chairs take energy away!
5
Notes… Don’t play to the panel Some people play a “Double Tactic” – (ie. Funeral hostess “plays happy on top of complete grief and sorrow) Nephew comes out with markers on body (funny but angry with him.)
6
“I’ll be performing character name from title of play” -Get into the zone- -Take a physical STEP! – PERFORM!
